ANAHEIM, Calif. -- C.J. Wilson isnt too particular about the way he gets his victories. He will take them any way he can get them -- no matter how ugly they are. Wilson surrendered five runs in the second inning after his teammates had scored five in the first, but Mike Trout regained the lead for the Los Angeles Angels in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer, and manager Mike Scioscias much maligned bullpen hung on for an 8-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. "It was the best luck I had to get that run support and win despite giving up all those runs," Wilson said. "The bullpen had their backs up against the wall. I didnt really give them that much to work with. They had to throw four scoreless innings and they came through." Wilson (8-6) barely navigated through five innings and left with the lead after allowing six runs and nine hits, including back-to-back home runs for the second time in his last three starts. The left-hander, who came in 5-0 with a 1.58 ERA in his previous six outings at Angel Stadium, blew a 5-0 lead in the second before Trout hit his 17th homer in the bottom half. "It was an interesting approach that their team had today. They took a lot of pitches -- first-pitch strikes down the middle -- and then with two strikes they would fight the pitches off," Wilson said. "I dont know how many first-pitch strikes I threw. It felt like a ton. All the hits were deep in the count, so it was kind of a Twilight-Zone type of thing. "After the two home runs, it was like paper cuts to death. Obviously, Willingham and Morales hit the ball really hard, but a lot of the other hits were in-between guys or under the coverage," Wilson added. Trouts homer was Los Angeles last hit until David Freeses one-out single in the sixth. The Twins got a run closer in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by former Angels slugger Kendrys Morales, but Joe Smith got three outs for his sixth save to help extend the Angels four-game winning streak and snap a season-best four-game streak by the Twins. Kyle Gibson (6-6) threw 50 pitches over two innings in his 25th career start, equaling his shortest outing in the big leagues. The 26-year-old right-hander gave up seven runs, four hits and two walks, after coming in with a streak of 22 consecutive scoreless innings. "I just didnt really have a good feel out there from pitch one in the bullpen," Gibson said. "It felt like I was searching the whole time. It was just one of those weird nights. I didnt feel like I was repeating my delivery. It was pretty clear that I wasnt very sharp. I was leaving sliders over the middle, sinkers up -- I mean, it was a confusing, frustrating night overall." The right-hander found himself in a bases-loaded, no-out jam after 16 pitches and failed to retire any of his first six batters -- although Albert Pujols reached on a fielders choice when shortstop Danny Santana fielded his grounder deep in the hole and Trout beat the rookies throw to second. By the time the inning ended, Los Angeles had pushed across five runs. Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick both came up with the bases loaded and hit two-run singles. Erick Aybar, who was hit by a pitch, scored the fifth run on a double-play grounder by C.J. Cron. But Minnesota needed only one inning to erase the deficit. Josh Willingham, who has eight homers in his last 15 games against the Angels, drove an 0-2 pitch to centre field that barely eluded Trouts glove -- which was about 3 feet above the fence. Morales followed with first homer in a Twins uniform, sending a 3-2 pitch into the lower seats in the left field corner. No. 9 hitter Sam Fuld kept the rally alive with a two-out RBI single, Santana drove in another run with a double and Brian Dozier tied it with an RBI single. Louis Cardinals continued their offensive tear with a 9-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a four-game series.NEW YORK -- A gift from Grady Sizemore gave the Mets the boost they needed to reward Jacob deGrom with a win. The rookie pitched seven crisp innings and New York scored the tiebreaking runs when Sizemore dropped an easy pop fly, handing the Mets a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. "Right now thats the kind of break that we need until we get it going offensively," Eric Campbell said. Campbell stole home on a double steal, and Travis dArnaud hit an RBI single to help the Mets stay out of the NL East cellar with their 12th victory in 17 games against the Phillies this year. Cody Asche had a run-scoring single for Philadelphia, which had won four straight and six of seven. A victory in the series opener would have pushed the last-place Phillies past New York, but Sizemores two-out error with the bases loaded in the seventh cost them. "Routine play, had it the whole way, saw it fine, was under it, just missed it," the left fielder said. "It does not get much worse than that. The guys played hard -- I just happen to be the guy who let the team down. Really all there is to it." In a matchup of rookie right-handers, deGrom (7-6) allowed four hits and an unearned run. He struck out five and walked two, throwing 70 of 103 pitches for strikes in his second start since coming off the disabled list. Mets second baseman Dilson Herrera went 0 for 3 with an error in his major league debut. The 20-year-old Herrera was called up from Double-A Binghamton to fill in for injured Daniel Murphy. David Buchanan tossed six innings for the Phillies, giving up one run and four hits before he was pulled for a pinch hitter after only 64 pitches. New York took a 4-1 lead in the seventh, scoring three unearned runs without a hit. Matt den Dekker drew a one-out walk from Jake Diekman (3-4), who hit Wilmer Flores with a pitch and walked pinch-hitter Campbell with two outs. Juan Lagares lofted a high pop to shallow left-centre, and Sizemore was under it when the ball deflected off his glove for an error that allowed two runs to score. Sizemore won Gold Gloves with Cleveland in 2007 and 2008. "Yeah, we were pretty pumped up in the dugout. There was no question, because we havent been scoring. You take every gift you can get right now," Mets manager Teerry Collins said.dddddddddddd With runners at the corners, Lagares stole second and Campbell broke for home, beating the return throw from shortstop Jimmy Rollins with a headfirst dive at the plate. "We had to look at the guy at third there," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. Campbell became the first Mets player to steal home since Jason Pridie in Houston on May 15, 2011, the team said. "We just thought wed take a shot at it, and it paid off," Collins said. Jeurys Familia worked a scoreless eighth, and Jenrry Mejia struck out three in the ninth for his 20th save in 23 attempts. Philadelphia tied it in the seventh on Asches run-scoring single after a throwing error by first baseman Lucas Duda. Carlos Ruiz popped up a bunt for the first out of the inning, and deGrom limited the damage when he started an inning-ending double play with an athletic stab of a sharp comebacker by pinch-hitter Domonic Brown. "It was hit pretty good. I just reacted to it and stuck my glove out there and it went in," deGrom said. THANK YOU VERY MUCH The last time the Mets scored three runs or more in an inning without a hit was against the Chicago Cubs at Shea Stadium on July 25, 1999. Philadelphia had not permitted such an inning since Sept. 6, 1996, against the Cubs at Veterans Stadium. HOME SWEET HOME By winning his fourth straight start at Citi Field, deGrom improved to 7-2 with a 2.12 ERA in his last 11 overall. He has gone at least seven innings in each of his past four outings at home, yielding a total of three earned runs. TRAINERS ROOM Phillies: Sandberg said the team might bring up about five or six players from the minors when rosters expand in September. He thinks extra arms would help his bullpen, which had a 1.81 ERA in the previous 21 games since Aug. 5. Mets: Murphy (strained right calf) could be sidelined longer than two weeks. The first-time All-Star was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday night, retroactive to Aug. 25. UP NEXT In the middle game of the series Saturday night, Mets RHP Bartolo Colon (12-10, 3.82 ERA) makes his first start since attending his mothers funeral in the Dominican Republic. His opponent on the mound will be journeyman right-hander Jerome Williams, who is 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA in three starts for Philadelphia.
